Some Fairytale Endings Have Scandalous Beginnings

Have you ever read Chekov's "The Lady with the Dog"--No? Then I must stop you here. Do not continue reading this Blog, unless you've read the short story, I promise not to squander your time. You are still reading--perfect.

Since you've already read the story, there's obviously no need for me to tell you, the white Pomeranian is the featured picture of this Blog because Dmitri--the protagonist of the short story--falls in love with a girl named Anna, whom is the proud owner of a white Pomeranian (begin "ah"'s and "ooh"'s).

Alright, let me get to the point, both Dimitri and Anna have spouses, yet, they are mildly affectionate lovers. Dmitri "had begun being unfaithful to her [his wife] long ago--had been unfaithful to her often," and, correspondingly, had little positive things to say about women, yet fantasized about their physique--shallow, I guess? Anyway, both characters are disloyal to their spouses and share a romantic relationship, but alas, they are separated when Anna must leave (the majestic land of Yalta [as Chekhov depicts with vibrant colors]) for home. Fortunately, what's a fairytale ending if the knight doesn't save the princess. Adulterer one (Dimitri) journeys to adulterer two's (Anna) rescue, where he saves her from the sanctity of marriage and they both run away together.

What a happy ending. Wow, if these schmucks can get a happy ending (or rather beginning), I guess anyone can.
